Black Roe Restaurant in Mayfair has made a name for itself with its unique take on ‘Poke’, the Hawaiian version of sushi.
Tucked down a side street in Mayfair, the wonderfully moody and understated interior design at Black Roe features grey walls, low lighting and dark hues with carefully crafted distressed textures from rustic wood to luxury leather. The open-plan restaurant features low lighting to focus on individual tables – giving diners that extra bit of privacy.
Custom Curtain Design at Black Roe Restaurant Mayfair
The exquisite interior evokes memories of travelling to far-flung lands; once you step inside, you’re immersed in a full sensory celebration of Asia. With a lack of natural light, Black Roe embraces flickering candles bouncing off the dark walls, making it feel more like a secret-sake-den-in-Tokyo than a beach shack on the tropical beaches in Hawaii.
The atmospheric spot is complete with monochrome portraits taken by celebrity photographer Seamus Ryan, of fishermen and women who dutifully watch guests enjoy their produce.
Posner Interiors worked alongside architect Andy Martin architecture to install curtains with a custom track system suspended from an uneven arched ceiling. The installation featured a powder-coated track system around the 20m perimeter of the room. The carefully positioned Asian Illustrations flow around the gathered curtains allowing the striking art to stand out from all angles of the restaurant.
Black Roe Poke Bar and Grill in the heart of the West End specialises in marinated raw fish – Traditionally tuna, on a bed of sticky rice – better known as Poke. The interior design concept of Black Roe attempts to communicate and celebrate the fact that all the fresh produce gets imported from sustainable sources in the Pacific. If you can only stop for a short pit not, never fear, they have an open Poke counter at the very front of the restaurant too.
